Carson Biederman

Founder & President

Carson is the founder and President of Digital Fuel Capital. Previously, he was a co-founder and Managing Partner of The Mustang Group, a private equity firm that invested in innovative companies within the consumer products, technology and business services sectors. Prior to founding Digital Fuel Capital in 2012 and co-founding The Mustang Group in 2003, Carson was at Bain Capital for seven years, where he invested in both start-ups and mature companies across a range of industries. He was a founding member of two investment practices within Bain Capital: Bain Capital Credit and Bain Capital Ventures. Carson began his career in the investment banking group of Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette. He received a B.S. in Economics from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Stephen Owen

Partner

Steve joined Digital Fuel Capital at its founding in 2012 and is responsible for investment execution and portfolio company support. Previously, he was a Principal of The Mustang Group, an affiliate of Digital Fuel Capital. Prior to that, he was at Advent International for five years, focusing on buyout transactions in a range of industries including industrial, building materials and business services. Steve was also at Credit Suisse First Boston in the investment banking department where he was a member of the CSFB Technology Group focusing on mergers and acquisitions. He received a B.A. from Williams College.

Chris Colbert

Operating Partner

Chris joined Digital Fuel Capital in 2023 and was named Operating Partner in September 2024. His role is to work with the teams to improve portfolio and company performance through the active alignment of business strategy, brand strategy and customer experience. Previously, he served as Managing Director of the Harvard Innovation Labs. His career path has included running several companies in the marketing, technology and innovation space, and advising CEOs on how to advance their efforts at digital transformation. Chris is a frequent speaker and the author of This Is It, a provocative work on the importance of innovating oneself and Technology is Dead – The Path to a More Human Future. He received an International M.B.A. from Duke's Fuqua School of Business and a B.A. from Connecticut College. He serves on the boards of Pillar Ventures, Fintech Americas, Concept Vines, and School of Humanity.

Kiran Gowda

Vice President, Digital Marketing & eCommerce

Kiran joined Digital Fuel Capital in 2019 and is responsible for overseeing growth and marketing across Digital Fuel and leads D2C value creation for several portfolio companies. Previously, he was Vice President of Digital and E-commerce at Bulletproof. Kiran's prior roles include Senior Director of Global Digital and Technology at TRX and owning eCommerce and digital marketing for Goorin Bros. and TravelSmith Outfitters. He received a B.Sc. from Nottingham Trent University, an M.B.A. from San Francisco State University, and an Executive Education in Strategic Marketing Management from Stanford University Graduate School of Business.

Brooke Newbury

Vice President, eCommerce

Brooke joined Digital Fuel Capital in 2020 and is responsible for improving the digital experience across the portfolio companies. Previously, she was the Director of eCommerce at Rugs USA. Since the beginning of her professional career in 2007, her focus has been in both digital marketing and management of digital products including websites and apps across many industries. As a strong proponent of the test and learn methodology, she has applied it at a broad set of businesses including Keurig Dr. Pepper, CVS Health, and at Goodair Marketing, an agency where she was the founding member. Brooke received a B.S. in Marketing from Franklin Pierce University.

Joe Kiernan

Vice President, Portfolio Strategy and Operations

Joe joined Digital Fuel Capital in 2024 and is responsible for portfolio strategy and operations. Previously, Joe was an executive at Perch, an Amazon-focused consumer products company that scaled to $400M+ in revenue over the course of three years before being acquired. At Perch, he led the tech product team, building out a full stack marketing platform and in-house fully automated supply chain ERP. Prior to that he spent nine years at Bain & Company ultimately as a senior manager leading engagements with a wide variety of Fortune 500 and middle market consumer products brands focused on supply chain, growth strategy, and M&A projects. He received an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School with Highest Distinction and a B.A. from Williams College in computer science and economics.

Erika Kilgore

Senior Director, Talent & People Strategy

Erika joined Digital Fuel Capital in 2021 and is responsible for leading talent acquisition and broader people strategy efforts across both Digital Fuel Capital and its portfolio companies. She and her team focus on building high-performing organizations through hiring, organizational design, performance management, and compensation planning. Previously, Erika was a Senior Account Manager at RevelOne, where she specialized in placing senior marketing leaders across eCommerce brands. Prior to that, she worked in the Financial Practice at True Search, executing searches for financial executives across both B2B and B2C companies. She received a B.A. in Neuroscience and Economics from Boston University.
